Pope meets first female Archbishop of Canterbury in symbolic Vatican encounter
Pope Leo and new Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally met for the first time on Monday in a symbolic Vatican encounter, exchanging gifts and praying together. Mullally, the first woman to lead the Church of England, was welcomed by Leo into his formal office at the Vatican’s apostolic palace. The two leaders, who split in 1534, met privately before reciting prayers in a 17th-century chapel.
